The housefly is distinguished by its gray color and the characteristic stripes that cover its chest. It generally has a size ranging from 6 to 14 millimeters with the female being larger than the male.

It lays its eggs in every decomposing substance with which its larva feeds (human and animal feces, piles of garbage, etc.). During its life the housefly can lay up to 900 eggs.

The house fly is the most important carrier of pathogenic microorganisms. It transmits mechanical typhoid fever, cholera, sagittal dysentery, childhood diarrhea, etc. On her legs and proboscis as well as on her whole body, she has plenty of fine hairs, to which germs and dirt easily stick.
